They're Still Here

We still have kittens

I still don't like it

Even worse, they're growing

Mom says I should make friends
so I don't have to worry about it.

I say, I want to worry about it.

Oh. They have names now... click here for that.

Possum Report

We still have our 'possum. Dad calls him Opie. Opie climbs up onto our balcony every night for dinner. Of course, we don't actually know that he is a "he." But he comes anyway.

Catzee and I like to watch him eat. Dad calls it the Cats' OTV. Sometimes I hiss and Mom fusses at Me. But he is on my balcony after all, and I'm not allowed out when they're expecting him.

Mom leaves him a bowl with some dry cat food, a raisin or two, a sliver of apple, a few sunflower seeds, a little chunk of dried bread, some leftover popcorn, a bit of cantaloupe rind or carrot. He doesn't like lettuce or cucumber. He always eats the cat food first.

After he finishes eating he gets a drink from the water dish nearby and then he washes his face. Mom says he washes his face like a bunny because he uses both paws at the same time. When he was littler he would hang out and take a nap before climbing down. Now he just leaves when he's done. Or hides. He is shy.

And that's the Possum Report.

What Mom Found On The Balcony

Last night we were minding our own business when we heard sirens right outside the window. I immediately ran and hid, but Mom and Catzee went to see what was up. Evidently the fire department had been called out for an apartment in the next building. Mom said there was no smoke, but the fire fighters were in and out of one of the second story apartments for about two hours.

Mom watched from the balcony for awhile, when all of a sudden she heard what sounded like a potted plant falling over. She looked down, and she saw this.....

We have several wooded areas nearby and Mom figures this little guy must have been snooping around, got frightened by all the commotion, and climbed up the balcony as if it was a tree.

At first Mom didn't know what to do about him. She thought about waiting to see if he climbed down by himself, but she didn't want him to be stranded all night either. Finally she thought to put some Catfood in a bowl inside the PTU.

We watched to see what would happen. It only took a couple of minutes for this to happen ......

Mom quietly slipped out and closed the PTU door. Then she took him outside and downstairs.

It didn't take long after she opened the PTU door that he ran out and away. I just hope he didn't eat any of my Catgrass.

The Scoop on the Ginger & White

Here's the scoop on the Ginger & White Cat who was making such a commotion with The White Cat over the empty food bowl.

Mom met the part of his human family while she was out walking Catzee on her harness. His name is Bittsey, and he lives down at the other end of our building. I don't know if he is ever allowed inside (or if he ever wants to go inside), but his humans keep a food bowl outside for him. He just likes to fight, and he picks on The White Cat quite a bit and usually wins. He's very friendly toward humans.

Mom thinks he is very territorial because he never had his hoohaectomy. However, I've had mine and am very territorial too. The problem with not having any hoohas, is the inability to mark one's territory. Then when an intruder comes along, he thinks the territory is available for the marking. I got into a lot of fights that way, when I used to be allowed outside. I was constantly having to defend territory which was rightfully mine, but was powerless to define in the manner of Cats.

So there you have it. That's what there is to know about the Ginger & White.

The Commotion

The other day Mom, Catzee, and I were minding our own business when we heard a loud commotion outside our front door; it was caterwauling! We immediately jumped up and ran to investigate.

When Mom opened the door, this is what we saw........

The argumentThis is what they were fighting over........

The prizeNow I can see arguing over a full food bowl, but an empty one???

1st Cat's pleaThe Ginger and White reminded Mom that they were friends because he had let her pet him. He said that it should be his bowl.

2nd Cat's replyThe White Cat got indignant that Mom would consider befriending another Cat when she had already befriended him.

The observerI wanted to go out and settle the matter myself. After all, it should be my bowl. But Mom said no.

So whose bowl is it?

Contestant #1This Cat's?

Contestant #2Or this Cat's?

Mom settled it by giving each Cat a handful of food on the decking. So nobody got the bowl and everybody got something to eat.

After that we closed the door, went back about our business, and didn't hear another thing about it.

White Cat Report

Mom talked to our neighbor who also works in the office here. It turns out that the White Cat belongs to someone who lives in another building. However, they won't let him inside.

So he's very scruffy and dirty. He is not skin and bones, but is usually hungry for both food and affection. He fights with a big ginger and white who also lives nearby and who usually wins. You can see the boo-boo on top of his head from fighting. His ears are all chewed up too.

Someone in our building put a bowl out for him and it is usually has Cat food in it. Sometimes it is empty so Mom fills it. Whenever the White Cat sees Mom coming he runs to greet her and asks to be petted and fed.

Mom doesn't think that this is a very good way to take care of a Cat and I agree. Personally I don't wish to get friendly with him, and Mom agrees we can't have another Cat inside. At least he officially has some humans and perhaps they do love him in their own way. Even so, Mom's going to keep an eye on him.

Intruder Alert

One day, Mom and I were looking out the window.

We saw what Mom thought was a bag that had gotten blown up onto the hill. See it under the bushes above the grey car? A closer look revealed this.....

Remember our Christmas Intruder? That's him. All curled up and sound asleep.

Lately we've seen him often over there.

Watching and waiting.

Lots of birds live in those bushes and trees. So we know what he's up to.

However, keeping an eye on him is exhausting work. So here's a Catnap dedicated to Chey, Miles and Sammy, Sweet Ariel, Latte and Chase, Abby, Mr. Hendrix, Renee, Merlin, Smeagol and Strider, Catzee, Luna, DaisyMae Maus, China Cat and Willow, Oreo, Sophia, Shilgiah, Eric and Flynn, Rocky, Rosie & Cheeto, Sharlene, Grr, Midnight, & Cocoa, Cecilia & The 2Bs, and that's it for now.

Not The Santy Claws

Mom and Catzee and I were minding our own business last night. Catzee and I were goofing around under the Christmas tree and Mom was trying to take some pictures.

All of a sudden, we heard something outside.

An intruder! He was sitting there on our balcony as if he owned it. And we're on the second floor! I was not very happy about this and even Catzee hissed. But Mom wouldn't let us out there to do anything about it.

Definitely not Santy Claws.
